Project: Improving Onboarding Activation with Data-Driven Messaging

Overview

As part of a campaign to improve user onboarding, I used SQL to analyze drop-off points in the onboarding flow and identify key moments of friction. My analysis led to actionable messaging changes that increased feature activation.

Challenge

A new feature saw low activation rates within the first week of launch. We suspected users were not reaching key onboarding steps.

My Role

  • Queried product usage data using SQL
  • Identified where users were dropping off
  • Created messaging recommendations for the product and lifecycle teams

Outcome

  • Found that 62% of users never reached the final step on onboarding
  • Recommended clearer CTAs and revised onboarding copy
  • After updates, activation rate improved by 18% within two weeks.
